Our Story

Empire Cleaning LLC was founded in 1987 by Mel Marcino with a simple but powerful belief: true cleanliness serves the people who live and work in a space, not just the space itself. What began as a small operation in Saratoga Springs has grown into one of Upstate New York's most respected full-service residential and commercial cleaning companies—yet our founder's original vision remains at the heart of everything we do.

In 1992, Mel traveled to Chattanooga, TN and Dalton, GA to study under master craftsmen and become a certified carpet inspector. He studied fiber types, construction methods, dyeing processes, mill-related defects, installation problems, and maintenance issues—touring carpet mills to witness the entire manufacturing process firsthand. This deep foundation in materials science set Empire apart from day one.

The following year, Mel made a radical decision. After extensive research into cleaning chemicals and their effects on both people and products, Empire Cleaning shifted from tap water to softened water—and in some cases, ionized water. This allowed us to use milder, safer cleaning solutions long before "green cleaning" became a household term. We've been going green ever since.

Mel Marcino brings more than three decades of specialized experience to every job. A past IICRC-certified carpet inspector and former Eastern Regional Director of The New England Institute of Restoration and Cleaning, Mel has trained at the highest levels of the industry. His credentials include:
